As we announced at the end of last year, Producer & Roaster Forum (PRF) returns in 2022 and will come to Colombia.
This year, the two-day forum will be held in the Plaza Mayor of Medellín, Colombia, where we expect it to gather at least 5,000 participants. These visitors will be international coffee professionals, including growers, roasters, traders and more from over 50 countries.
During the forum, participants will be able to take part in workshops, tastings, presentations and a range of other activities. Additionally, as with past events, PRF Colombia will have a stage where a range of international industry leaders will deliver speeches and lectures throughout the two days. These will cover a range of key issues and areas of interest to the industry.
Over the two days, PRF Colombia will host an array of industry leaders and other high-level representatives from the public and private sectors. If you think your values match the event and want to help drive green coffee sales in the Colombian coffee sector, speaker applications are open!
Read on to learn more about the event, a speaker’s responsibilities, and how you can apply.

What is the Producers and Roasters Forum?
PRF is a premier annual coffee event that brings together coffee professionals from around the world to empower farmers and boost sales of green coffee in a coffee producing country.
It is divided into two main parts: the three-day Origin Trip experience and the two-day forum.
Original travel experience
The Origin Trip experience gives participating international roasters the chance to learn more about the origin Colombian coffee. Those who attend are divided into groups, which then stay at local Colombian coffee farms for three days.
As well as touring farms and staying with their hosts, roasters will also be able to see local wet and dry mills, have a cup of coffee, participate in a range of other relevant farming activities, and participate in panel discussions.
The ultimate goal of this journey is to develop sustainable supply relationships between roasters and farmers.
The two-day forum event follows immediately after the Origin Trip experience. This is where guest speakers will address the thousands of international guests in attendance.
In addition to these conferences, the event will also include educational workshops, panel discussions, tasting events, presentations by market leaders, and more.
PRF Colombia’s goal is to facilitate green coffee sales for coffee growers in the country, which is achieved by providing a platform for growers and buyers to network. At the same time, PRF Colombia will have an exhibition arena where industry experts will share their knowledge, experiences and visions for the future of coffee.
This is a great opportunity to raise awareness of issues that matter to you and your organization, as well as to share knowledge and educate other attendees.
Who should apply to become a speaker?
If you are a coffee professional in any capacity, you can apply. However, we ask candidates to have at least five years of experience in their respective fieldsas good as some degree of experience in public speaking.
More importantly, what we expect from you is the ability to offer something beneficial to participants. It can be a desire to educate or inspire PRF Colombia guests, to start an important discussion regarding the entire supply chain, or to share a vision that will benefit the coffee sector in the sense large.
Speeches at PRF events are also tailored to the needs of the host origin in question, with a view to delivering value to key industry stakeholders (especially producers). This means that at PRF Colombia, every presentation will add real value to attendees of the Colombian coffee sector.
As well as individual speechwe will also host panels (which will feature multiple speakers on the same topic). At previous PRF events we have also added a range of shorter shapes “micro-conferences” following an unprecedented volume of applications, so this might also be something we will consider in the coming weeks.
As this event specifically targets producers and roasters, we encourage both to apply, but actors and stakeholders from all sectors are welcome. We also encourage speakers from diverse backgrounds, as one of our main goals is to ensure that we provide an overview that is both inclusive and comprehensive.
Finally, we want to hear local perspectives on the various issues facing the coffee supply chain right now. As such, we specifically encourage Colombian coffee professionals to apply to speak.
Discussions cover a range of topics, which have included in the past:
- Emerging markets and origins
- The coffee economy
- Coffee consumption trends
- Sustainability, transparency and traceability
- Coffee & environment
- Gender equality in coffee
Julio Guevara is the director of the PRF. He tells me that PRF Colombia will be a unique opportunity to share expertise in a producing country.
“There is a huge gap between producing and non-producing countries,” he adds. “PRF aims to fill it by bringing the conversation to a place where speakers and panelists lead a thought-provoking program.”
