Murray State Volleyball wins over Marshall in four sets to close out the Marshall Invite with two wins.
The runners were up against a resilient foe in the first set having to go through two deuces before claiming the set. They then showed their dominance in the second set by winning the set 25-18 before dropping the third in a tight 23-25 set.
A second wind seems to have blown for the Racers in fourth as they win 25-16 to seal the game.
Jayla Holcombe became the Racers’ main gun, terrorized the herd early with 11 kills in the first set as she led the Racers with a total of 20 kills.
Bailey DeMier set a season-high 54 assists completed in a game (13.25 per set), creating tandems with forwards as she continues to lead the Racers’ attack.
Federica Nuccio records his sixth double-double of the season. She’s just behind Holcombe in kills with 16 while contributing to defense with 11 digs.
Dahlia Miller led the Racers in digs with 20.
“It’s a good win for the morale of the team as we’re still here trying to improve to prepare for the conference game,” said the head coach, David Schwecker.
“DeMier and Holcombe played very well today and they still have room to improve. We’re happy to have them on the team.”
The Racers will face Clemson at the Samford Invite on September 17.
