Employee dispute leads to shooting at Ossian workwear company


OSSIAN, Indiana (WANE) – A person was shot dead after two employees clashed outside a Wells County manufacturer on Friday morning.

A crime scene tape surrounds the area of ​​the Bern Workwear parking lot where a man was shot dead on October 22, 2021.

The incident took place in Berne Workwear at 2501 East 850 North, on the south side of Ossian, around 10 a.m.

According to Sgt. Brian Walker of Indiana State Police, officers were called to the company over a report of multiple gunfire in the parking lot.

Police and medics arrived to find a person in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was able to speak with officers and provide information on the suspects, Walker said.

The victim was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital. He has been listed in stable condition, Walker said.

Police found the suspect and another person of interest in the area of ​​SR 1 and Interstate 469, Walker said. He was taken into custody.

Neither the victim nor the suspect has been identified.

Walker said company employees were sent home for the day. Crime scene technicians were working on the scene.

The shooting was seen as an isolated incident, Walker said.

Indiana State Police and the Wells County Sheriff’s Department are working on the case, Walker said.

Berne Workwear has more than 100 employees. It is a warehouse for the clothing company. It will reopen on Monday.
